How to use the teleprompter
- Paste your script into the box. It is saved in your browser as you type.
- Set the speed in words per minute. Start around 140 to 150 and adjust after a test read.
- Drag the orange line to where your eyes rest, usually near the top third, close to the camera or mic.
- Press Start or the space bar. Use the arrow keys to speed up, slow down or go back.
- For glass teleprompters, turn on Mirror and press Fullscreen.
Recording voiceovers for faceless videos
Faceless channels don't need a camera, but reading narration well is still hard. A few things help:
- Read at the pace you planned. If the script length calculator says 1,500 words is 10 minutes at 150 WPM, set the prompter to 150 and your take will land close to 10 minutes.
- Keep cues in brackets. Write [B-roll: city at night] or [pause] in the script. They stay visible for you and take no time.
- Record in sections. Pause at each chapter, then restart from there with the left arrow. Long takes are where mistakes pile up.
- Split the script into scenes afterwards with the script to scenes splitter to plan the visuals.
Choosing a reading speed
Many narrators land somewhere around 130 to 160 words per minute, but that is a rule of thumb, not a standard. Slow down for dense or emotional material and speed up for lists and recaps. Run the first minute, check how it sounds, then adjust with the arrow keys.
FAQ
How does the speed work?
You set the speed in words per minute, from 60 to 300. The text scrolls so that the spoken words pass the reading line at exactly that rate, so a 1,500-word script at 150 WPM takes 10 minutes. Text in [square brackets] takes no time.
Can I use it to record a voiceover?
Yes. Put the prompter on your screen next to your recording app, set the pace you want to narrate at, and read along the line. Because the speed is in words per minute, your recording should come out close to the length you planned.
What does mirror mode do?
It flips the text horizontally, so it reads correctly when reflected in teleprompter glass (a beam-splitter mounted in front of a camera).
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Space starts and pauses. Up and down arrows change the speed by 10 words per minute. Left and right arrows jump back or forward 5 seconds. R restarts, M mirrors, F toggles fullscreen.
Where are my scripts saved?
Only in your browser, using localStorage. Nothing is uploaded to TubeChef or anyone else. Clearing your browser data deletes them, and they do not sync to other devices.
Why are some words dimmed?
Anything in [square brackets] is treated as a cue, such as [cut to B-roll] or [pause], and shown dimmed so you do not read it out.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes, it works in a mobile browser. Fullscreen depends on the browser; on some phones it is not available.
